Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will my cell phone work in Jamaica?
A: Most Caribbean destinations have U.S. compatible cell phone service. Depending on your cellular phone service provider, type of mobile device and calling plan you may be able to use your cell phone while on vacation. We recommend contacting your cellular phone service provider prior to departure to find out if they offer service in the destination you are traveling to and to determine if any special settings are required. We also recommend purchasing a calling card in case cell phone coverage is not available. NOTE: Roaming charges for cell phone use in Jamaica can be very expensive depending on your provider.

Q: How can family members reach me?
A: Family members can call the resort directly and ask to be connected to your room. Your hotel phone number is often listed on your travel documents. For all resort numbers and emails, as well as physical addresses, please visit our contact page.

Q: Do I need to convert my money to local currency when I arrive at my destination?
A: It is generally not necessary to exchange your money for local currency as U.S. dollars; traveler’s checks and major credit cards are widely accepted. We recommend traveling with a number of small bills as vendors often have a limited amount of change available in U.S. currency. You can also exchange larger bills for smaller denominations at your hotel’s front desk or cashier.

Q: Whom do I contact when I cannot resolve an issue at a hotel?
A: Most travel packages include the services of an on-site or in-destination representative. The contact number for those parties will be listed on your travel documents or you may speak with the hotel’s manager.

Q: Can I use more than one credit card or form of payment when paying for my trip?
A: Yes, you can use multiple forms of payment for your vacation.

Q: What do I need for proof of citizenship?
A: ENTRY / EXIT REQUIREMENTS: All Americans traveling by air outside of the United States are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter the United States. U.S. citizens traveling by sea must present a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) compliant document such as a passport or a passport card for entry to the United States. While passport cards are sufficient for entry into the United States, they may not be accepted by the particular country you plan to visit; please be sure to check with your cruise line and countries of destination for any foreign entry requirements. Passport cards are an acceptable travel document for entry into Jamaica FOR SEA TRAVELERS.

Visitors must have a return ticket and be able to show sufficient funds for their visit. U.S. citizens traveling to Jamaica for work or extended stays are required to have a current U.S. passport and visa issued by the Jamaican Embassy or a Jamaican Consulate. There is a departure tax for travelers, which is regularly included in airfare. For further information, travelers may contact the Embassy of Jamaica at 1520 New Hampshire Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20036, telephone (202) 452-0660; the Jamaican Consulate in Miami or New York; honorary consuls in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Seattle or Los Angeles.

For additional information visit the US Department of State Official Site or Visit the Embassy of Jamaica for the most current information about Jamaican visas for Americans.

Q: Do I need to reconfirm my flights?
A: It is highly recommended that you reconfirm your flights by contacting the airline directly within 24 hours of your scheduled departure time.

Q: What is the dress code for the restaurants at night?
A: In our á la carte restaurants we request that your wear tasteful dressy resort wear. This all depends on the restaurants you wish to dine in. In some restaurants long pants are required for men and in outdoor restaurants dressier shorts are appropriate. None of our restaurants require a jacket or tie to be worn. Please refrain from wearing shorts to the á la carte restaurants.

Q: Do you have a nurse on property?
A: There is a Registered Nurse on the premises at every Sunset Resorts property with daily office hours. The nurse services are complimentary but there is a charge for medication and doctor’s consultations should those be necessary.
